Way Off Broadway has been a leader in the area’s performing arts community since it first opened its doors in late 1990 as The Keynote Dinner Theatre. In 1995, with a new set of owners the curtain rose for the first time on Way Off Broadway with its inaugural production, Let the Good Times Roll. Less than an hour from DC, Baltimore, and Gettysburg, WOB combines both fine dining and first class live entertainment. WOB is also the only theatre in the area that is open and producing production 52 weeks a year. In 1996, Way Off Broadway opened its wildly popular Children’s Theatre, ensuring entertainment for all ages in the region. Over the year, the theatre continued to produce larger scale productions while still providing guests with the one-on-one service they came to know. In 2002, the Kiska Family purchased the theatre with a desire to expand the theatre and its operations. With an eye toward the future, there is always something fun and excited happening at The Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre & Children’s Theatre!

The Maryland Shakespeare Festival is a professional, innovative and classic theater deeply committed to its community. Founded in 1999 with the vision of providing free outdoor performances of Shakespeare plays each summer, The Maryland Shakespeare Festival is structured with three distinct program areas: Performance, Education and Performance Research. Each area serves the community in its own way.

Currently, the Performance program area provides professional performances of Shakespeare plays each summer – accessible to everyone. The only theater in the Frederick area working under an Equity contract (the national union of actors and stage managers), The Maryland Shakespeare Festival also employs some of the most respected designers in the Mid-Atlantic region, creating productions at the highest artistic levels which everyone in the community can enjoy.

Begun in 1997, the ensemble is dedicated to creating and producing theater with professional resident artists and visionaries in the art of theater. Maryland Ensemble Theatre (MET) is dedicated to the creation and production of extraordinary theatre art through the combined voices of a diverse ensemble of professional resident artists who are influential leaders in the community and visionaries in the art of theatre.

MET creates a positive environment where artists and audience share an exciting, emotional, thought provoking theatre experience for our times and our community. MET features an eclectic season of plays that are accessible; yet, challenge audiences and pique the interest of a national audience. Through open communication and life long learning, the MET ensemble brings an unparalleled commitment to excellence that helps shape our region by initiating creative dialogue between artists and audience; providing outreach to under served communities; and training, education, and professional development opportunities to students of theatre that will propagate MET artistic values into the American Theatre.
